Glenard has been open to students since 1961. The residence welcomes students of all creeds and ethnic backgrounds. The pastoral care in Glenard has been entrusted to Opus Dei, a Personal Prelature of the Catholic Church which aims to help people lead a fully Christian life and to seek holiness through their study , daily work and family and social commitments.
